Back to class!!

We did it!! We are back on track with our ESL Beginners II Class! I'm excited, having returned students to class and having new students. I'm looking forward to spend time with our class. For those who had the placement test, you did a good effort! As students you were right there in the middle of the test... to the same extent, yes, you belong in our class. What to expect this year? First, we will be acquiring a book and workbook. Second, we will be working with some exercises to help you with your listening and speaking skills. Third: NO SPANISH!!(or any other first language) ONLY ENGLISH IN OUR CLASS! So, please do your best at communicating. The purpose of this class is mainly to help the students produce with their own voice in English!

Don't forget... you are doing something worthwhile!! ♥

HAPPY CHILDREN'S DAY

Feliz Dia del Niño!!! To those of you who celebrates the April 30th day in Mexico, celebrating the children's day, and have fond memories of this particular holiday, hurray for you!!I have my own fond memories when I celebrated the children's day and I will keep those memories forever!!!

I had a wonderful Easter with my family. We went to church to uplift our spirits. After church we enjoyed going to lunch with our family, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Missing relatives that were not with us...but we know that they were in our hearts.

Change of classroom...

Just a reminder that we have changed to a different classroom. We were in Room 207 - NOW we are in Room 601. We are also extending our hours from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. I thought it would be helpful since we are going to be done with classes soon on May 9th. This change of classroom and time is ONLY for my class Beginners II.

Workshop - Making your own brand of cereal

We had another team activity! This time the students were to make their own brand of cereal. They had to describe the ingredients, the health benefits, they had to come with their own ad. Well, it was just fun! I loved what they came up with. We had three teams this time. Some who miss this class came later on, to join them and did the job of judges for the best ad, healthy cereal and displaying it's contents orally. Wow!! I was impressed. My class is fabulous!!!

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!

This is a day ...we celebrate the day of a Saint from Ireland! Yes, not from USA but from Ireland... St. Patrick. What I like about this day is that it is always on the 17th of March. Not first, second or third of the month day but it actually has a number set on it.

So Proud of My Class!

I just want to say how proud my class have made me. They are wonderful, hard working, dedicated, diligent and patient. I have noticed great progress, their reading fluency have increase, their vocabulary have grown and they are diligent in speaking ONLY English in class. That's the only way you are able to acquire a second language as your own... because you make it your own! Want to mention all of them... but if I leave one of them out, I know I'll regret it! So give yourselves a great pat in the back and tell yourselves how wonderful and what a great choice you have picked... because the time you have spent in ESL... is worth it! ♥ I have an international class... from Mexico, Peru, Afghanistan, and also Brazil and one from USA... :)

Friday March 7th, 2014 - NO CLASS - I will not be able to teach on this date. As I have mentioned before, my cousin who was battling cancer passed away on Feb. 26th, 2014.Her funeral service is going to take place on this day. Thank you for your support.

I just want for you to enjoy your Valentine's Day! It is a day of friendship and love and for that reason I am here posting my valentine to my class. I enjoy being part of Alas Latinas because it has allowed me to meet beautiful people. I admire all of you for your courage, patience, drive, love, and devotion. I have seen a lot of progress and I know you'll be better prepared as you keep coming to learn a language that will help you open doors. I am thankful for your friendship and for your time!!! HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!

New Team Work: Making Your Own Store

This time our teams are working in making their own clothing store... with advertisements, coupons, sales etc. I enjoy having this kind of activities because it allows the students to interact with their classmates and they get to do different leadership positions to have an effective display at the end of their work. I'm looking forward to see their presentations and to see what they have develop in their own. I’m looking out for fluency in the vocabulary using clothing and sales approach. So far, so good!!

Missing you!

I have been missing a lot of you in my class. Hope you are doing well... that is my main concern. I know I have one of you that lost your father during Christmas vacation. I'm sorry for your loss. I also want to let you know that if you are not planning to return to classes please return your reading books. I would really appreciate if you could do it as soon as possible. Another item to be returned is the ID card for Alas Latinas, so please if you are not planning to come soon ... return these items and if you come later on ... I will give them back to you. If you have been sick, since is the cold/flu season... stay healthy and hope to see you soon!!! ♥

We had only six students on our first day of 2014, I wish everyone will be healthy because there's a lot of head colds going around.
